Our year 7 Football team lost 5 - 1 against a good St Christopher’s side in the first round of the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley cup competition. Norden played well and the improvements made over the course of this term were there for all to see, however the better team won on the day with some excellent individual players. I hope the Norden lads are proud of their performances so far and I am looking forward to seeing more from them after the Christmas holidays.

Honours Evening 2013
The Head's speech was about how the success of our students is not only down to their hard work, but also the support and guidance from their families, in particular their parents, and also their teachers. He also gave some background about our guest speaker Dr Danielle Gaynor who left Norden High School in 1995.
Danielle's speech was incredibly motivational; after leaving Norden High School in 1995 she went on to study A Levels at Clitheroe Grammar School 6th Form. She admitted that she had to work very hard and was terribly disappointed with her results which were 1 grade B, 1 C, 1D and an E. After being told to give up her dream of ever becoming a Doctor of medicine she returned to Norden and spent hours with Mrs Stanton, her former Science teacher, researching a way of getting into University to study a degree in her chosen field. They found a degree course at Cardiff and Danielle was thrilled to be accepted onto a course to study biomedical science. She was fortunate to have a very supportive and inspirational tutor at Cardiff who guided her towards a further course at Warwick University and encouraged her to follow her dream of studying medicine. Danielle is now thoroughly enjoying her dream job and works at Manchester Children's Hospital. She works on the wards and regularly has to respond to calls to resuscitate children as part of a crash team. She ended her speech by thanking the teachers at Norden High School for being so supportive and encouraging her towards where she is today. She also had an important message for the class of 2013; 'follow your dreams, don't let anyone tell you they are not possible, and if your path does seem blocked take a diversion!'
